For many Americans, living with neuropathy is one of the greatest challenges they face. Present in about 8% of people around the world, neuropathy - or peripheral neuropathy, to be more accurate - can affect anybody. In the United States alone, there are more than 40 million people with neuropathy, with health costs surpassing $4 billion each year. Approximately 10% of people over 40 years of age get neuropathy, as do 50% of diabetics and 20% of patients receiving cancer chemotherapy. In fact, the number of people with neuropathy is only increasing as diabetes becomes more common, the population ages and people with HIV/AIDS live longer.
While some patients have a higher risk of developing specific types of peripheral neuropathy, it does not discriminate between race, sex, age, personal circumstances, or medical history. Fortunately, neuropathy awareness is growing, and by proxy, so are new treatment options. Peripheral neuropathy can manifest in a variety of ways. It has the potential to impact a single nerve, a group of related nerves, or numerous nerves in several areas of the body. The specific symptoms will vary based on which type of nerve signals are affected, and it is possible for multiple signal types to be involved.

Peripheral neuropathy is a term used to describe nerve disorders that affect a specific part of your nervous system. There are several conditions that can lead to peripheral neuropathy, resulting in a variety of symptoms. The symptoms and the body parts affected by peripheral neuropathy depend on the underlying cause.
The nervous system in the human body is divided into two parts - the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system comprises the brain and spinal cord, while the peripheral nervous system includes all other nerves present in the body. That includes those that travel from the spinal cord and brain to supply the face and other parts of the body.
Whenever there is any condition that affects the peripheral nerves, it is referred to as peripheral neuropathy. Healthcare providers often use the terms "neuropathy" and "polyneuropathy" interchangeably with "peripheral neuropathy." It is important to note that peripheral nerves, being the farthest from the central nervous system, tend to show the earliest and most severe effects of these conditions.
In order to comprehend the impact of peripheral neuropathy on your body, it's useful to have some knowledge about neurons - a crucial type of cell that forms your nerves. These neurons utilize electrical and chemical signals to transmit and relay messages throughout your nervous system. Each neuron in your body is made up of the following:
A cell body is the primary part of a cell.
An axon is a long, arm-like projection that extends from the cell body of a neuron. At the end of the axon, there are several finger-like extensions called synapses, which convert the electrical signal in the neuron into a chemical signal. These synapses then transmit the signal to other nearby nerve cells.
Dendrites are small, tree-like extensions on the cell body that receive chemical signals from nearby neurons' synapses.
This is a protective covering made up of thin, fatty chemical compounds that surround the axon of many neurons.
The development of peripheral neuropathy and how long it takes depends on its underlying cause. If the cause is an injury, it can develop instantly or within a few hours. However, some forms of peripheral neuropathy caused by toxins or inflammation may develop rapidly over days or weeks. In contrast, most other conditions that cause peripheral neuropathy take months, years, or even decades to develop. Regardless of the cause, modern advances in medicine give patients hope for recovery, using doctors preferred treatment for neuropathy in legs and feet in Middletown, DE.
The peripheral nervous system in your body carries motor signals that originate in your brain and are sent to your muscles. These signals allow you to move around and carry out various physical activities. For your muscles to remain healthy and function properly, they require nerve connections to the brain. Some motor symptoms include:
Nerve connection loss causes your muscles to weaken and shrink. With peripheral neuropathy, this happens most often in your lower legs, feet, and hands. Occasionally, patients will experience deformities in their hands and feet due to muscle loss.
Muscle weakening is a common issue caused by nerve deterioration from peripheral neuropathy. This condition can result in paralysis, making it difficult to move toes or causing foot drop and hand weakness. Additionally, it can also affect muscles in other areas of the body, such as the thighs and arms.
When nerves lose a connection to your brain because of your neuropathy, they can become hyperactive, resulting in uncontrolled muscle movements and cramps.
Did you know that your body has several processes that happen automatically without your conscious effort? These automatic functions are known as autonomic processes, and they include things like sweating, digestion, and blood pressure control. Autonomic nerve fibers are responsible for carrying signals for these automatic processes. However, disruptions in these signals can cause your body's automatic processes to malfunction. Some of these processes may work intermittently, while others may not work at all.
Some autonomic symptoms of neuropathy include:

Some of our most popular neuropathy treatments include:
This device is designed to improve blood and oxygen flow, which in turn promotes optimal nerve and nervous system functionality. As a result of the healthy, oxygenated blood, damaged or weak nerve endings receive a rejuvenating boost, which may be experienced as a slight tingling sensation.
Did you know that infrared lights have amazing benefits for our bodies? They can help repair cells and improve the circulation of oxygen-rich blood, which in turn promotes faster healing of deep tissues and relieves pain.
For individuals dealing with diabetic neuropathy, the primary objective is to either reverse diabetes or decelerate its progression. Functional medicine involves incorporating lifestyle modifications to maintain blood sugar levels consistently at a healthy range, which all but eliminates diabetes. Choosing functional medicine recommendations is almost always preferred over invasive and more complicated treatments, and our team is here to help you get started.
Our providers may suggest advanced cellular therapy as a final option for those who have tried other treatments without success and are suitable candidates. This therapy can assist in improving the healing and treatment process of individuals who are experiencing neuropathy.

As of March 2024, the average solar panel system costs $2.63/W including installation in Middletown, DE. For a 5 kW installation, this comes out to about $13,162 before incentives, though prices range from $11,188 to $15,136. After the federal tax credit, the average price drops by 30%.
You'll probably pay even less than what we show here. It doesn't include the federal ITC or Middletown, DE state incentives, which will lower this price by at least a few thousand dollars.
It may seem obvious but larger solar panel systems cost more money. We use cost per watt ($/W) so you can easily compare quotes, controlling for slight variations in system size.
While a 5 kW system will only cost you $13,162 in Middletown, DE, doubling the system size effectively doubles the price, so you'll pay about twice that for a 10 kW system. The higher the price tag, though, the more you'll get back as a credit towards your federal tax bill.
Solar panels are worth it in most areas, including Middletown, DE. Certain factors, including the cost of electricity, incentives, climate, and the angle at which the sun hits your roof impact how quickly you break even on your investment relative to other areas around the U.S.
If you pay for your system with cash, you'll save about $25,713 over 20 years on electricity costs with a 5 kW system in Middletown, DE. We generate this estimate based on real solar quote data from our Marketplace. It considers your system's cost, the federal tax credit, and inflation rates.
If you can't shell out $13,162 in cash to pay for solar, don't sweat it. You can choose to finance your system with a loan instead. Some companies even offer $0-down loans so you can start saving on day one if your loan payments are less than your current electric bills. Just keep in mind that your long-term savings will be lower with a loan due to interest rates.
The numbers we're showing are averages. The price you'll pay for solar depends on many factors unique to you and your home:
If you're looking for solar companies in DE, here are some popular suggestions:
Solar is a major purchase, but you can get the price tag to come down a bit by being an educated shopper. Taking advantage of incentives and rebates and shopping around for quotes can bring down your cost of solar in Middletown, DE.
As long as your federal tax bill is high enough, you can take advantage of the federal tax credit in Middletown, DE. This incentive allows you to apply 30% of your solar installation and equipment costs toward your federal tax bill. If the amount exceeds your tax bill, you can roll over the remaining credit to the following year. Many states also offer great local incentives and rebates.
Comparing multiple solar quotes can save you money through competition and transparency. Each additional quote you receive for solar will help you find the right solar panel system at the right price.
This is where EnergySage can help. With funding from the Department of Energy’s SunShot Prize, EnergySage opened the country’s first (and now the largest) marketplace for home solar panel installations. We gather custom solar quotes from local installers on your behalf and put them in an easy-to-compare format. When you compare quotes for solar panels on the EnergySage Marketplace, you can expect to see prices up to 20% lower than if you work with a single solar company.

MIDDLETOWN – Sprouts Farmers Market, the natural and organic food grocer, will follow Target as a tenant of the new Northside Shopping Center in Middletown.
The Phoenix-based company told Delaware Business Times that it plans to open its second Delaware location by the second quarter of 2025. Developer Louis Ramunno told DBT that the store could open sooner though, if construction progresses faster.
“Sprouts is obviously a premier, national organic-oriented grocer. So, we’re really excited to have them in the mix,” he said.
Sprouts opened its first store in Delaware in 2020 adjacent to the Concord Mall near the Pennsylvania border off U.S. Route 202. The Middletown space would appear to be a slightly smaller footprint than the roughly 30,000-square-foot location opened there.
The announcement of Target’s arrival in the last year has driven interest from others to locate in the new shopping center. They would join a Dash-In gas station nearing an opening and an existing Popeye’s, Burger King and independent stores in a strip mall. Ramunno said that the three other inline retail locations with Target and Sprouts are already working through draft leases too.
“I can’t identify some of the other inline tenants just yet, but they’re all high-quality national brands,” he said.
While the rainy summer has delayed some progress on the new 147,000-square-foot anchor Target store, Ramunno said that a summer of 2024 opening is still possible. The company, which acquired the 13-acre parcel in January, expects to get its builder on-site by the end of August, he added.
Harkening to its farm-stand heritage, Sprouts features an open layout with fresh produce at the heart of the store and has a wide assortment of organic, plant-based and gluten-free foods.
The Phoenix-based company has about 380 locations in 23 states, although they are primarily located on the West Coast and in the Southwest. When it opened in Wilmington, it initially hired about 140 full- and part-time positions.
Sprouts has grown quickly in recent years as the demand for natural food grocers has increased, also leading to the growth of competing brands like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, of which the former has a store in nearby Glen Mills, Pa., and the latter has stores in north Wilmington and Christiana.
Neither have ventured to the booming Middletown market, but Weis Markets recently announced plans to open a 64,000-square-foot store just to the north near the Village of Bayberry community. Middletown already has a crowded grocery market with Walmart, Acme, Giant, Food Lion, Aldi and Lidl.

A regional Mexican fast-casual chain will soon open its first Delaware location.
Bubbakoo's Burritos offers a variety of made-to-order Mexican-fusion items such as hibachi steak and shrimp, Nashville hot chicken and General Tso's chicken served as customized burritos, tacos, nachos, tostada salads or quesadillas.
The new restaurant is located behind the HomeGoods and Ashley Furniture Store and next to Tommy's Express Car Wash at Middletown Warwick and Bunker Hill roads (1915 Lake Seymour Drive) in Middletown.
"As a longtime resident of Delaware, I'm thrilled to bring the brand to the state and provide the community with a new concept that is unlike anything else out there," franchisee Kushal Patel said in a statement.
Patel hopes to open the restaurant in "the next week or two."
The restaurant's decor features images of surfboards and skateboards and neon green accents.
2023 RECAP: Royal Treat, Nutter's are among the Delaware restaurants and shops that closed in 2023
Founder and co-owner Paul Altero has described the concept as a sort of "utopia" or getaway from the druthers of many folks' day-to-day schedules. Altero and business partner Bill Hart started Bubbakoo's in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, in 2008 after moving together through the corporate ladder at Johnny Rockets, the burger chain styled as a 1950s diner.
Altero made up the word Bubbakoo's in college. "It's more of a name that represents a lifestyle, a utopia, more than anything else," he said in 2015.
That year, Altero and company had eight locations in New Jersey. They have since franchised, expanding Bubbakoo's to 16 states and more than 100 locations, mostly concentrated in the Northeast and Florida.

MIDDLETOWN – A Weis Markets grocery store will anchor a new commercial plaza north of Middletown in the Bayberry master-planned community.
Blenheim Group, the Newark-based residential and hotel developer that began work on the Village of Bayberry community that spans 1,500 acres on both sides of Boyds Corner Road back in 2010, made the announcement Wednesday morning.
The 64,000-square-foot Weis store, its fourth in Delaware, will anchor a new 280,000-square-foot Bayberry Town Center commercial plaza and feature a gas station. The mid-Atlantic food retailer already operates 197 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia. The Bayberry location is scheduled to open in 2025.
The town center is anticipated to break ground this fall and is poised to be the largest grocery-anchored center in the fast-growing Middletown-Odessa-Townsend (MOT) corridor in southern New Castle County, according to the developer. Although other tenants have not yet been announced, Blenheim aims to include a combination of grocery, upscale shopping, restaurants, services, banking and health care.
The center will also feature 31,000 square feet of office space, two green spaces for community programming, 145 townhomes and a connective artery to 3,400 homes in the rear of Bayberry’s northern community.
“It’s a significant milestone for us here at Bayberry to welcome Weis Markets and kickstart additional leasing activity at the future Bayberry Town Center, the final phase in our multi-year development of The Village of Bayberry master-planned community,” said Jay Sonecha, president of Blenheim Group, in a statement announcing the deal. “Located in one of Delaware’s fastest-growing residential areas, Bayberry Town Center will give local residents a new first-class grocery option, while also providing convenient access to quality goods and services and enjoyable dining and entertainment with family and friends. We look forward to naming more tenants in the coming months and breaking ground.”
The addition of Weis on Boyds Corner Road will be an answer to one of the biggest requests of MOT-area residents, who currently only have grocery options in downtown Middletown and few options for gas stations east of Route 896.
It also comes with a captive market in Bayberry, which features 1,700 sold homes and plans for another 1,000 homes in the coming years. Part of the community’s selling point has always been the addition of commercial tenants that would help insulate the needs of residents, but it’s taken more than a decade to reach the point of breaking ground.
“Weis Markets is eager to serve The Village of Bayberry and the surrounding communities in the years ahead. When open, our new Bayberry Town Center store will offer a strong combination of quality, service, convenience and value,” Dennis Curtin, Weis Markets director of public relations, said in a statement.
